Nairuti Shastry
Senior Researcher
Nairuti Shastry is an engaged scholar, strategist-facilitator, and educator working toward racial and economic justice that transcends organizational, cultural, and political borders. As a QWoC and an immigrant, the nuances of movement, belonging, and social change have been both a participatory experience and a research question for Nairuti. Drawing on the strength and resilience born out of these intersecting identities and professional experience spanning several continents, Nairuti leverages Freirean pedagogy and theories of postcolonial racial constructivism, Diaspora, and transracial social change to support movements of antiracist, anticolonial resistance across the United States and beyond.
Currently, Nairuti works as a researcher with Beloved Economies, lending her sociological imagination and passion for post-capitalist futures to manuscript writing and development. Additionally, Nairuti supports the movement-building and partnerships work of the campaign, specifically through industry-specific reader guides, white papers, and method papers for individuals and organizations seeking a new economy approach to their work across several sectors, including higher education, healthcare, tech, and more.
Prior to joining the BE team, Nairuti worked to advance place-based community engagement in higher education at the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Social Concern. Nairuti is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William & Mary, holding a BA in Sociology, French & Francophone Studies, and Public Health.
